More than just a nuisance.

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a serious sleep disorder in which a person’s breathing is interrupted while asleep: the tongue is sucked against the back of the throat, restricting air flow. When the oxygen level in the brain becomes low enough, the sleeper partially awakens, the obstruction in the throat clears, and the flow of air starts again, usually with a loud gasp. It is more than just a nuisance for you and your loved ones. It can be life threatening as it is associated with an increased risk of other serious conditions such as heart attack, stroke, diabetes and high blood pressure; or it can drain your day with the irritants of daytime sleepiness, depression and loss of concentration.

Treatments for sleep apnea vary depending on the severity of each patient’s case and the type of apnea involved. However, if basic treatments such as CPAP or oral devices fail to work for you, corrective surgery may be your best option. We can perform corrective surgery on your nose (to improve breathing), your palate (to reduce snoring), and jaws (to open the airway). Our highly trained, Board Certified Oral Surgeons, have extensive experience helping OSA patients in Salinas and Watsonville, Santa Cruz CA.
