Treatment of TMJ disorders

TMJ is a broad term describing a number of symptoms that patients commonly describe as a popping or cracking noise accompanied by pain, resulting in discomfort while chewing, yawning or moving your jaw. It can be caused by trauma, an improper bite, and physical and physiological stress. In most cases, these symptoms are the result of chewing muscle inflammation due to overuse (teeth clenching, habitual gum chewing). Our board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeons have extensive expertise in providing effective relief for TMJ symptoms.

TMJ Treatment options:

  • Arthroscopy.
  • Joint infiltration with medication and growth factors.
  • Mouthguard to properly align the jaw and decrease the amount of clenching at night.
  • Botox injections to relax the jaw muscles.
